WHAT EXACTLY DOES THE PA DO?

The goal of the PA is to provide enrichment programs for our children, teachers and classrooms through fundraising activities and enthusiastic community participation.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

Special Events: Back to School and Shul Carnival, Chanukah celebration, School Passover Seder, Purim Carnival, Movie Night, and much more

School improvements: New air conditioning, beautification projects, refurbished bike path, landscaping and other wonderful improvements.

        School Equipment: Computer software

        Mitzvah Project: One per class

Education: Sponsoring teachers at education conferences and Parent Education seminar series

Saying thanks: Welcome gifts and teacher appreciation gifts and events

        AND MUCH MUCH MORE!

Please join us to enrich your child’s education and make this a fantastic year!

WE COULDN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!!!!

ROOM PARENTS Each year, the PA needs the help of many volunteers. Our key volunteer is the “Room Parent.” Each classroom needs two room parents. The Room Parents are responsible for the following:

        Attending monthly PA meetings

Making phone calls/sending emails to parents, when necessary, to notify parents of upcoming school and PA events

Assisting in coordinating some classroom events, including special Shabbat celebrations and publishing parties

Organizing holiday and end of the year teacher gifts

        Coordinating the class mitzvah project

The role is an opportunity to get to know the other parents in your child’s class and to help make the school an even better place. Please remember that your involvement will benefit your child(ren) directly.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP We need your help! If participating on the organizational level is too much for your family this year, you can still be a strong Gordon School PA parent. We are a family and participation is always welcome!

FUNDRAISING In addition to parent involvement, below is a description of some of the various PA fundraisers. Please complete the enclosed form and return to the school office.

ANNUAL FUND As tuition alone does not cover the cost to educate our children, this annual campaign enables the School Board and PA to provide additional funding to support and improve our schools.  The Annual Fund serves as our principal fundraiser. Any donation in addition to the amount required with registration ($360/180) is appreciated and fully tax deductible (donation letters for tax purposes will be provided).   Donations will be recognized throughout the year.  If you are interested in funding a specific need or project at the schools, please contact the Head of School, Jody Steele, School Board Anette Yelin (anetteyelin@bellsouth.net or 305-281-2657).  All questions about the Annual Fund should be directed to Anette.

BIRTHDAY BOOKS The PA, with your $36 donation, will purchase two books in honor of your child’s birthday. On the Shabbat Friday morning service closest to their birthday, your child will be presented with the books as part of the service. Inside the books will be a personalized bookplate noting your child’s name and birthday. One copy is for your child to keep and the other will be part of the Beth David Library or classroom in honor of your child. Your family is invited to join in this special presentation.

Questions? Contact Birthday Book Chair, Orly Freyer at orlybf@bellsouth.net or at 786-325-9225.

PIZZA DAY  On Fridays, instead of packing lunch, your child may enjoy a cheese pizza lunch, popsicle, and bottled water. This is one of our most successful fundraisers. We also provide pizza to the teachers and staff as a “thank you” from the PA. Pizza lunch is available for all Day School children and for those ECC children who stay for lunch. Pizza will be provided every Friday with the exception of half days.

Pizza will begin on Friday, September 2nd and will run through June 1st.   If you are interested in helping to serve lunch on Pizza Day, please fill out the attached volunteer form. Questions?  Contact Pizza Chair,

CHALLAH  In the Jewish tradition, it is customary to have challah, (braided egg bread) on Friday nights to welcome the Sabbath.  This is a beautiful tradition that we would like to share with our Beth David Family.  Every Friday we deliver pre-ordered TRANS-FAT FREE delicious kosher challah to your child’s class from Rachel’s Challah. We also offer special raisin challah for Rosh Hashanah.  Please keep in mind that you can order challah for friends, relatives and teachers.  Again this is another delicious way to help support our school.

Challah will begin on Friday, September 2nd , and will be delivered every Friday that school is in session.  If you are interested in helping deliver challah on Friday mornings, please fill out the attached form.

Questions? Contact Challah Chair, Ana Rubinstein at anagiselle@hotmail.com or 646-342-3999.

YEARBOOKS The fifth and fourth grade classes publish an outstanding yearbook representing both the ECC and the Day School that includes class pictures as well as candid photos.  Yearbooks are delivered at the end of the school year and must be paid for up front for ordering purposes.  What a wonderful way to remember the great year shared by all!
